A car collided with a van today at a North Hollywood intersection and then struck two children, leaving them and one of the drivers in critical condition, fire officials said. The accident at Radford Avenue and Victory Boulevard was reported at 7:28 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman D'Lisa Davies.
"The accident involved a van and another vehicle and left one 32-year- old female driver trapped in the van," she said. "That woman was extricated by firefighters, treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. She was last reported in critical but stable condition."
Davies said the other two critically injured victims were a 12-year-old girl, who was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles by a city fire helicopter, and a 13-year-old boy taken to the same hospital by ground ambulance.
"The two children were pedestrians," Davies said. "Our information is the car that may have precipitated the accident struck the van, then careened off and hit the two kids."
A 30-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel of the car, was treated at the scene for apparent minor injuries and transported to a hospital for further evaluation, Davies said.
The medical airlift temporarily shut down westbound Victory Boulevard at the accident site.
